An Improbable Fiction at PICT

Callee makes her Pittsburgh theatre debut in a successful kickoff to the Expand the Cannon series at Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre as Juliet. A sold out reading of a timely new play, written during lockdown, by James DeVita of American Players Theatre.

Callee's favorite part about this play is seeing these beloved characters as people, out of the limiting context of their respective plays. Juliet has always been a dream role of hers and she says "it's been such a gift to make my triumphant return to live, in-person theatre by sharing this Juliet with an audience. This is the version of herself Shakespeare's witty, intelligent Juliet has been waiting for - finally getting to say 'Romeo, Romeo wherefore am I only ever asked about Romeo?' "

London. Early 1600’s during the plague. The theaters have all been closed. Six of Shakespeare’s most iconic characters – Sir John Falstaff, Mistress Quickly, Othello, Cleopatra, Juliet, and a messenger – out of sorts (and out of work), meet up at The Boar’s Head Tavern to ruminate, commiserate, and celebrate life, love, friendship, the pandemic, their author, and the state of the world. A quick-witted comedy for any Shakespeare enthusiast!
